{family} The Zecca Family

A little secret…though sunlight is one of my favorite things in the world and also the name of my photography business, an overcast day is actually preferable for a photoshoot. There is still enough natural light for pictures, but the sun can often cause squinting, shadows, and in August, a lot of uncomfortable heat. This morning in early August was ideal in that it was a little cloudy. I was really looking forward to this shoot. I was excited to see Carin and meet her family; I was excited to travel to Delaware, to the Wilmington Airport, which was a first for me; and, I was excited to take pictures of the family’s plane, which was also a first for me. Carin, Tony, Louie, and Matthew showed up early in the morning, where I met them at their hanger. I adore Carin and it was no surprise that her family was as cute and polite as she is. The story behind the location is really neat….

Tony has a Cessna 172 plane. Carin explained to me that he got into flying as a kid by watching his dad work on airplanes as a mechanic for the airlines. In fact, both of their dads were mechanics on airplanes. Carin’s dad was a paratrooper in the Army during the Korean War. Her grandfather flew during WWII and went on to build and fly his own airplanes well into the 90s. Her parents met at an airport in Rhode Island so it is safe to say that flying and airplanes are in their blood. Tony earned his VFR license about 6 years ago, before Louie was born. He is currently working on getting his IFR. The love of planes has been passed down to Tony and Carin’s two boys who love playing with planes and being pilots, as you can see in the pictures. The small airplane in one of the photos was actually Carin’s dad’s, which is always displayed in their house, so it brought tears to Carin’s eyes when she noticed the boys packed it for the shoot.

We had a fantastic morning. It was so fun following the boys around because they were so excited to show me different parts of the plane. Louie was an amazing teacher and Matthew’s energy was absolutely adorable. There were naturally a lot of action/candid shots and some special shots of the four of them as a family. I made a point to include the plane in all the photos for them and think these pictures capture the significance of airplanes in the Zecca family, and also the love and adventure between them!
