For the record, the morning I met Alison and her children was the morning I had the most Delco conversation of my life. Being born and raised in north Jersey, I always considered myself a “transplant” here in Delaware County and often laughed at the conversations I’d hear people having about who they know and what parishes they belong to. Alison and I have a mutual friend, which is how she got in contact with me for her photos, but as soon as we met we also discovered that her dad and my father in law are very good friends. Her brothers also went to school with my husband and the conversation kept unfolding...and so there I found myself feeling like a true Delcorian (?...that’s definitely not a word).
The morning we met was absolutely GORGEOUS. It was cool and sunny and the colors surrounding the Grange Estate were stunning. Alison and I actually moved the original date of the photoshoot due to rain. Thank goodness we did because Sunday morning was perfect. The Grange in Havertown is a really cool spot because there are so many different places that are ideal for photos. All of these locations are rustic and beautiful and well-kept, but also provide different varieties of light, as seen in these photos. The only downfall to taking photos so early in the morning is the morning dew on the grass. Though it was a little wet and in some areas a little muddy, we made it work.
Alison’s two children, Lucas and Zoey, are incredibly adorable and respectful. Lucas, the handsome, attentive, and loving older brother of Zoey even helped me scout out a location to begin our shoot. He picked a spot right under a tree behind the estate that was illuminated with just enough early light to turn everything yellow and orange. It was so soft and serene. Zoey was nearing her nap time and while Alison coaxed her and prepared her for some photos, I started taking a few of just Lucas. He was so sweet, telling me about school and his friends, while also smiling (and also looking serious) in the photos.
I put down my white blanket while Zoey made her debut. One year old, and recently moving and walking, Zoey was determined to explore. I was still able to capture some moments with Zoey and Lucas that are so precious and really show the relationship between them. Lucas was ready to hold Zoey and hug her. It was so cute to watch. Alison was a great help too...as a wonderful mom does, she took care of any cries and also helped direct some pictures with ideas and props that she wanted to incorporate. Alison was also used as a prop herself, holding Zoey, who was getting a little upset, while I was able to take some beautiful pictures of her and her piercing blue eyes.
We ended the shoot in front of an old, rustic tractor. We put some pumpkins around the blanket and I was able to take a few more pictures of both Lucas and Zoey together. I took some candids of her grabbing her brother’s face and trying to eat a pumpkin, which...if you have kids, you know this is all par for the course. It was so much fun. The kids were so cooperative and kept us laughing and smiling, and even towards the end and an outfit change later, Zoey still gave me that adorable little look straight into the camera. It was a wonderful morning and I am so happy to have met Alison and her kids and had the opportunity to capture their family!
