{newborn} The Fox Family
It had been forever since I drove through Manayunk; and on Labor Day, the day before a new school year started for me, I ironically drove passed the first school I ever worked in. It put me in a wonderful, nostalgic mood as I was on my way to the Fox house to meet their newest addition, Victor. I had taken John and Alice’s maternity photos at the end of August and was so happy to hear that a beautiful and healthy boy was welcomed just a few weeks later. I was so anxious; not only to photograph another newborn (my favorite), but to see the Fox family again, especially new big sister, Winnie.
The Fox family welcomed me into their lovely house where Winnie was watching cartoons and Victor was sound asleep in his rocker. I don’t say this often, but I must have said it about twenty times while I was there: “He is absolutely perfect.” Victor was only about a week old when I photographed him, but his clear complexion, chunky cheeks, even his little smile (which I was able to capture), and his demeanor were all so relaxed and precious. He looked so much like Winnie and he wasn’t even a month old. Winnie was so proud to show me her new baby brother as she raced over pointing to him with her blue dress and gold bow in her hair. The Fox kids were adorably ready for their big photo shoot.
Labor Day was humid and sticky but we were able to get some great pictures outside. The Foxes have a great backyard with a stone wall that John had made into a vertical garden with succulents sporadically placed and gorgeous flowers in a shaded corner against the wall. Winnie helped me stage some Jefferson Airplane “Victor” records and arrange Scrabble pieces that her mom and dad wanted to include in some photos. Everything was sentimental: hospital bracelets, wedding rings, and ultra sound pictures.
It was a complete pleasure to photograph this family right before Victor was born and I honestly had an even more enjoyable time capturing the fresh, sensitive moments of the Fox family as a new party of four. Welcome to the world, Victor and congratulations to the whole family!
